Lawn Care

Avoid traffic on your new lawn during the first four weeks to give the roots an opportunity to firmly knit with the soil.

Watering
Gradually taper off watering to a good soaking twice a week in dry weather.  During mild conditions, one deep watering per week should be sufficient and will help produce a more drought tolerant lawn.

Mowing
Your new lawn will require mowing 10 – 14 days after planting.  Your mower blades should be sharp (this stops the turf from bruising).  On the first mowing you should lightly trim, making sure not to scalp the new lawn as this will send it into shock.  It is also desirable to mow your lawn when the leaf surface is dry as this will reduce the chances of disease entry into the wound.  Once your lawn is established we recommend a cutting height of 3 –5cm depending on the time of year.  In winter you should increase the mower cutting height to at least 5cm to reduce stress from harsh frosts.

Fertilising
Although your new lawn has been fertilised before leaving the farm, the heavy watering required to establish the turf will tend to leach some of the nutrients from the soil.  It would be beneficial to fertilise your lawn 4-6 weeks after laying.
After your lawn is established we recommend that the lawn is put on a regular fertiliser schedule to ensure that your lawn remains healthy.  Bendygleet Turf Farm supplies a full range of slow-release turf fertiliser to ensure that your new lawn stays healthy.   Please feel free to contact us to discuss a fertiliser schedule for your lawn.
